Today’s world is filled with technology, and every business thus has weaknesses in their networks somewhere. Depending on your business, there are five different ways you are at risk. Take a look at these risk factors below and take action to protect yourself against attacks.

Paper

With all the talk about cyber threats today, one of the ways you are actually most vulnerable is confidential paper left in the printer. According to Printer Logic, anyone can get banking information or private customer information from sensitive papers irresponsibly left in the printer tray. Always shred documents after using, even if it doesn’t seem like they are crucial at the time.

Certificates

Having no SSL certificate is a sure way to be more vulnerable to attacks. SSL technology verifies that the networks you are connecting to are valid. If you don’t have one, it could mean that you’re getting tricked into connecting with a hacker’s website instead of your internal site, for instance. Certificates are relatively cheap and available so don’t skimp on this aspect security.

Javascript

Much of the interactive design of the web today is thanks to Javascript. It allows users to have images, videos, and sound all in one pretty package. However, Javascript also has several weaknesses that can be exploited. To protect against hackers using Javascript as an access point to your information, block certain kinds of scripts with software available for free.

Network

Your internal network at the office is what is most valuable to an attacker. With access to this network, they can move throughout your system and steal your information without you noticing. That is, of course, unless you are visualizing your network and have response mechanisms in place. Put a team of engineers on this issue to monitor your network for strange activity.

Phishing

While the networks and computers you use every day are the access points for many attacks online, there is something else that puts your business data at risk: people. Through advanced phishing methods, hackers can send fake emails seeming to be from executives or other officials. If an employee clicks on the link, it hijacks the whole system. Train your workers not to click on anything suspicious and report odd emails.
If you have a company that you are responsible for, then security should be top of mind. The only way to prevent risks of getting hacked is to understand what you’re facing. The items above all present places where you need to deploy the right resources and prevent attacks before they happen. That way you can protect your data and company future.
