There are few things which kill business as much as being perceived as outdated. Even if dealing with vintage or antique materials, you are expected to be up to date in most things. But, if your sales fall off, and you think it might be a perception of you as old or out of date, how can you fix this?  What are signs that you might be stuck in the past?

You Aren’t Using Social Media

The easiest sign that you’re not up to date and need to update your style is that you’re not using social media! Social media is a theatrical skill. There are specific styles of preferred artistic expression for each social media site, and your preferred demographic is on one of them. You need to find them, figure out the algorithm, figure out your sweet spot for communication, and keep going!

You Haven’t Update Your Website

Three quarters of consumers judge your credibility based on how your website looks. This means if your website hasn’t been updated in three to five years, it absolutely needs to be! Why? Color trends and visual design trends change, and rapidly. Likewise, you need your code updated because older websites take longer to load, and this makes it harder to retain views. You want your bounce rate to go down, and faster mobile sites are key to making this happen.

Brand Identity

If your potential customers cannot link your brand and logo in their minds immediately, you have a problem. If they remember your product, but can’t remember your name, whether because it’s too long, or too unfamiliar, this is an issue! They will google “that cool dress I saw that has science designs,” and this will bring up thousands of options, and only a few of them on your own site. So, you want a brand logo which is in color and simplicity visually identifiable from a distance, in a tiny social media bubble, and on signs and business cards. Remember, even Google changes its logo from time to time! Don’t be afraid to update if what you have isn’t working for you!

You’ve worked far too hard over time to allow your business to go by the wayside because your website and logo aren’t updated. There are courses and social media specialists who are there to help you, as well. You’re not too old to learn to update your branding!
